St. Therese of the Child Jesus – Kahama was established in 1974. At that time, they were meeting in the home of Judith Kapesa, who served as a catechist. In 1983, they moved to the premises of Kahama Primary School under catechist Tryphone Kababashe Ng’holongo, operating under the Parish of St. Justine – Bujora. After catechist Tryphone passed away, they continued to meet with catechist Clement Lumu Mayala.

In 1985, they began the construction of a church on land allocated by the village government, led by Andrea Mang’weng’ula (village chairman) and Zabron Kalimbia (land distribution committee), at that time under catechist Venance Makelele. They started building a mud church with a thatched roof using the strength of the congregation. In 1994, they received funding for fifty (50) sheets of iron from Father Kalori of the Kawekamo parish, and at that time, they were under the management of catechist Joseph Ludaila Nyanda.

In 2005, the branch of St. Therese of the Child Jesus was handed over to the administration of the parish of St. Josephina Bakhita – Igoma under Father Andrea. At that time, the branch had four (4) communities: St. Therese, Veronica, Maria, and Joseph, and the Kahama branch served as the center for three other branches: Igogwe, Nyamadoke, and Kahama. In 2014, the St. Maria community was divided and gained the St. Peter community, which later established the Isela branch.

On 01/01/2018, the branch was placed under the administration of the parish of Mary, Mother of God – Buswelu, having seventeen (17) small communities. At that time, the branch was under catechist Christopher Swalala, who has since passed away. On 26/09/2020, the branch of St. Therese of the Child Jesus – Kahama was declared a Quasi-parish by His Grace Archbishop Renatus Leonard Nkwande, under the administration of Father Faustine Yohane Bagwa. As of 29/10/2022, the Quasi-parish of Kahama has three branches: St. Therese of the Child Jesus – Kahama with twenty (20) communities and nine (9) neighborhoods, St. Peter the Apostle – Ilalila with six (6) communities, and St. Therese of the Child Jesus – Igogwe with five (5) communities. Therefore, the Quasi-parish of St. Therese of the Child Jesus – Kahama comprises a total of three (3) branches, nine (9) neighborhoods, and thirty-one (31) communities.
