The Mwananchi Parish was established on April 4, 1994, with the status of a mission from the Nyakato Parish. It initially comprised three communities: St. Veronica, St. Joseph the Worker, and St. Cecilia. The construction of the mission began in 2001 after a fellow believer donated land to be used for church purposes. The Mwananchi mission was elevated to the status of a Special Parish on November 13, 2016. Mwananchi Parish is located within the governmental area of Mwananchi and Susuni, with a total of approximately 993 believers living in 14 communities, which are: St. Veronica, St. Juliana, St. Martin, St. Yasinta, St. Basil the Great, St. Catherine, St. Polycarp, St. Philomena, St. Ladislaus, St. Elizabeth, St. Laurent, All Saints, St. Maria Goreth, and St. Ambrose. These communities are divided into four regions: Region “A” includes the communities of St. Veronica, St. Yasinta, St. Maria Goreth, and St. Catherine. Region “Gabriel” consists of the communities of St. Ladislaus, St. Elizabeth, St. Polycarp, and All Saints. Region “C” includes the communities of St. Philomena, St. Ambrose, and St. Laurent. Region “D” includes the communities of St. Martin, St. Juliana, and St. Basil the Great. The Mwananchi Special Parish is being inaugurated today, June 29, 2021, by His Grace Archbishop Renatus Nkwande, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mwanza.
