The parish of St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist, formerly known as the Special Parish of St. Peter and Paul Apostles Igombe, is within the parish of St. John the Evangelist Nyang’wilolelwa. It has four outstations, which are: 1. Igombe 2. Kabangaja 3. Kilabela 4. Kisundi Additionally, there are fifteen small Christian communities. On December 27, 2019, His Grace Archbishop Renatus Nkwande elevated Igombe's status to a Special Parish under Father John Shija Masalu, who was the parish priest of Nyang’wilolelwa at that time. On June 24, 2023, His Grace Archbishop Renatus Nkwande of the Archdiocese of Mwanza officially established the Special Parish of Igombe as a Full Parish, naming it the Parish of St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist – Igombe. He appointed Father Deogratias Katai as its first parish priest. This made it a parish with six outstations, which are: 1. Outstation of Igombe 2. Outstation of Kabangaja 3. Outstation of Kayenzendogo 4. Outstation of Kilabela 5. Outstation of Kisundi 6. Outstation of Kasang’wa These outstations comprise a total of 36 small Christian communities and approximately 600 baptized members. The parish was part of the Kirumba deanery at that time and is now part of the Ilemela deanery. Geographically, the parish is bordered to the south by the Special Parish of Isanzu, to the north by Lake Victoria, to the east by the parish of Kayenze, and to the west by the parish of Nyang’wilolelwa. The parish has a complete leadership structure along with all missionary organizations. The parish continues the process of finishing the construction of its church and the churches for the newly established outstations, which are Kisundi, Kilabela, and Kasang’wa.
