History of Nyamhongolo Parish

1. Establishment (1946)

Nyamhongolo was established in 1946 under the Parish of Bugando. The original congregation included the villages of Busekwa, Nyamadoke, Kanyama, Ihushi, Ng'wakilu, and Kahama.

2. Transition to Bujora (1953)

In 1953, Bujora was granted its own parish, and Nyamhongolo came under the Parish of Bujora. During this period, the faithful worshiped in government buildings, particularly at a local school.

3. Land Donation and Church Construction

A believer named Anastazia Nyamulaguwa generously donated land, where the main church was later built, marking a significant milestone in the parish’s history.

4. Transfer to Igoma Parish (2005)

In 2005, Nyamhongolo congregation was transferred to the Parish of Igoma when Igoma was granted parish status.

5. Formation of the Quasi-Parish (2017)

In 2017, the congregation of St. Michael was declared a quasi-parish of Nyamhongolo. This expanded the parish to include the congregations of Nyamadoke, Isela, Igogwe, and Ilalila.

6. Official Launch of Nyamhongolo Parish (2021)

On February 27, 2021, the quasi-parish of Nyamhongolo was officially established as a full parish. Padre George Nima Nzungu was appointed as the first parish priest of Nyamhongolo.
